Dr. Ronny Hertz, MD


Dr. Hertz has been a leader in the field of pain medicine for over 25 years.


In Oct. 1991 Dr. Hertz founded the pain management center at St. Luke's Roosevelt Center (now St.
Luke's Hospital and Mount Sinai West). While at the hospital he held a faculty appointment at
Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons. Dr. Hertz founded and developed the pain
medicine division and pain medicine fellowship at the hospital center.


Dr. Hertz practices in all aspects of pain medicine.  He specializes in chronic pain diseases such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD), Fibromyalgia, Facial Pain, and Neuropathic Pain.  He is skilled in performing spinal injections and treats various spinal problems including but not limited to spinal disc herniation, disk pathology, spinal stenosis, myofascial pain,  facet arthropathy, and Ketamine Infusions for Chronic Pain Syndromes. His dental training helps him in the treatment of facial pain.


Prior to St. Luke’s, Dr. Hertz practiced for 10 years at Lenox Hill Hospital as an attending anesthesiologist and pain management physician.


Dr. Hertz graduated Medical School from the State University of New York in Syracuse.  He also holds a dental degree from Northwestern University School of Dentistry in Chicago.  He completed his residency training at The State University of New York in Syracuse and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.  Dr. Hertz’s residency was in Anesthesia and he sub-specialized in Pain Management.


Dr. Hertz is a nationally renowned physician in the field of pain medicine.  He has taught at conferences in the United States and abroad.


Dr. Sheldon Opperman, MD, Medical Director KetaTherapy


Dr. Opperman is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist and has practiced in the field of Anesthesiology for over 30 years.


During his career, he has been in leading roles in the field of Anesthesiology. He was Clinical Instructor in Anesthesiology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine New York, New York, Chief of the Ambulatory Surgery in the Department of Anesthesiology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, Site Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at Manhattan Eye, Ear, Throat Hospital, (MEETH)/Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health in New York, Medical Director of MEETH/Northwell Health, as well as the Director of the Pre-Operative Surgical Clinic at MEETH.


Dr. Opperman has led initiatives and worked closely with risk management to improve safety and patient satisfaction.


Dr.  Opperman graduated from the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. He interned at Albert Einstein Medical Center and completed his residency at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital and Manhattan V.A. Hospital.


Dr. Opperman has over 30 years of experience using Ketamine in his practice.
